Britain in black and white
Photography first came to Britain in 1839, after being invented by French Romantic painter and printmaker Louis-Jacques-Mandé Daguerre. It was during the height of the Victorian era and this new, modern and cutting edge medium was embraced with a passion. It was also a period of seismic social change and technical innovation, all captured for posterity by this exciting new medium.
