As someone who grew up in Asheville NC, left for 20 years and been back for 5, I can definitively state that Asheville is not underrated it is vastly overrated. Maybe this was true 20 years ago, but not now. There are a lot of restaurants and shops but it’s all over priced and poor quality. They live off the reputation and do not even try for quality. If you want to get the real WNC experience with better shops and food, and better beer, go to Hendersonville or Brevard. Little know fact Hendersonville NC has way more breweries per capita that Asheville, 13 in city limits alone. Have the same fun for less with better quality, stay away from Asheville.

DO NOT GO TO ASHEVILLE! I have lived here all my life and it is turned into one of the most dangerous cities in the country (TOP 10%). The quiet mountain town that is advertised to 'tourists" does not exist. It's full of bars, drunks, homeless people walking the street, illegal aliens and every kind drug and evil you can think of. If you're a Christian don't even think about it unless you're on a mission trip to save somebody. Greenville South Carolina is only an hour away you'll be glad you went there instead!!! DannyPNC. ><))))> STAY OUTSIDE THE CITY! "MAKE ASHEVILLE SAFE AGAIN!!!"
