Nicknamed the “Apple Capital of Georgia”, Ellijay can be found at the southern end of the Appalachian Trail. Quintessentially charming, the city draws visitors with its hiking trails, lakes, apple farms and the tranquil Cartecay River which winds through it from the Chattahoochee National Forest. The heritage apple orchards are the main attraction, and as the greenery foliage transforms into pretty fall colours come October, Ellijay hosts the annual Georgia Apple Festival, where hundreds of vendors offer food, arts, crafts and more. The festival has plenty of entertainment too, including an antique car show, parade and a 5K road race.
