A British staple, bed and breakfasts have been popular with travellers across the UK for hundreds of years. With so many options, it can be hard to choose which is best. Thankfully, British motoring company AA recently revealed the winners of its AA B&B Awards 2022 which celebrate the best B&Bs in the UK. Now in their 26th year, the awards feature categories including Friendliest B&B, Inn of the Year and Regional Breakfasts of the Year, all in different areas. From luxury retreats in Scotland to historic inns in Wales, we've rounded up the winners.

The Bear Hotel, Powys, Wales
A favourite among locals and visitors alike, The Bear Hotel is a 15th-century coaching inn that won Guest Accommodation of the Year for Wales. Located in the beautiful Brecon Beacons National Park, the historic bed and breakfast has been welcoming guests for more than 500 years and has been run by the Hindmarsh family for over 40 years. The Bear Hotel is renowned for its delicious food, incredible location and welcoming atmosphere.

The bed and breakfast has 35 unique rooms, immaculately furnished and decorated with locally inspired artworks. Each room features luxury bedding, toiletries and spring mattresses for a peaceful night's sleep. For breakfast, the restaurant offers an array of dishes including a Full Welsh breakfast, pancakes, pastries and a selection of cereals. The hotel also has its own bar, serving craft ales, speciality spirits and fine wines, with a beautiful garden perfect for a drink in the sunshine.

Another recipient of Guest Accommodation of the Year, but this time for Scotland, the Meikleour Arms sits right in the middle of the conservation village of the same name, renowned for its incredible scenery and great salmon fishing. A hotel and restaurant since 1820, the bed and breakfast was built on the Meikleour Estate, one of the oldest historical estates in the region. Perfectly positioned near the River Tay and surrounded by lush woodland, the Meikleour Arms is popular with walkers, hikers and fishers.

Built in 1741, the impressive Grade II*-listed house combines Georgian heritage such as beamed ceilings with modern amenities, creating an elegant and relaxing setting for guests.

Spread across the main house and The Stables, the 12 bedrooms feature comfy beds, flat-screen TVs and luxury bathrooms with robes, slippers and toiletries. Guests also receive complimentary access to the on-site spa which offers a variety of treatments and uses natural and organic products. The award-winning breakfast is what matters here, though.
