Upon first seeing the strange town of Setenil de las Bodegas in southern Spain, visitors might ask themselves whether they are, in fact, still dreaming. This gorgeous historic place, where whitewashed houses are built directly into and under the rocky cliffs that surround the town, is a seamless coming-together of man and nature.
Situated 2,100 feet (640m) above sea level, there's evidence of people living here since the Roman invasion 2,000 years ago. The town has a population of just 3,000 but, unsurprisingly, is popular with tourists – welcoming hundreds of thousands of them every year.
