Just 10 miles (16km) south of Gainesville's hustle and bustle sits Micanopy, a small town that couldn't be more Old Florida if it tried. Home to fewer than 1,000 residents, it's a place where magnificent oak trees draped in Spanish moss line the historic main street, Cholokka Boulevard, and visitors can enjoy a slower pace of life.

Once you've bagged some bargains in the town's beautiful antique shops and indulged in some sweet treats at one of the cafes, head for the Micanopy Historical Society and Micanopy Historic Cemetery to learn more about the town's 200-plus years of history.
