You might be surprised to learn that Delta actually had its roots in the farming industry: the airline’s first planes were used for aerial crop-dusting (spraying powdered fertiliser on crops from the air). Under the name of Huff Daland Dusters, the company was founded in Macon, Georgia in 1925.

Delta gained its current moniker in 1928 – after the Mississippi Delta region it initially served – and began flying passengers a year later. Pictured here are vintage advertisements from 1965.
