Should museum relics return to their native lands? It's an increasingly common question, with renewed calls for the likes of the Rosetta Stone and Parthenon Sculptures (AKA the Elgin Marbles) to be repatriated. In December 2022, Pope Francis decided to 'donate' three pieces of the Parthenon marbles from the Vatican Museums to the Greek Orthodox Church. And we're starting to see more artefacts reunite with their home countries – for example, 192 looted pre-Islamic antiquities are being returned to Pakistan from New York.
