A super luxurious property in the northeast of Phoenix, the Arizona Biltmore takes its pet-friendly status very seriously indeed. The swanky spot offers a room service menu purely for pets (with local meat and veggies in favour of kibble), 39 acres of greenery and deluxe cottages geared up for furry guests.

Eureka Springs' Crescent Hotel is best known for its ghostly guests, but it's got a beloved feline resident too. If your pet favours a touch of luxury, this stylish Frisco property is for you. There's a rooftop terrace just for four-legged travellers, a pet package including plenty of treats and a pillowy bed, and even a couple of canine concierges to make your pet feel right at home – Buster and Beau are the hotel's resident dogs. The hotel admits dogs under 50 pounds (22.6kg).

The Little Nell pulls out all the stops when it comes to canine comfort. The Aspen hotel offers a premium pet package including a super-cute 'Puppy Jet Lag Kit' complete with homemade peanut butter dog treats. There's also a special pet menu for peckish pooches, with options like local ground beef with carrots, eggs and brown rice. Planning on hitting the slopes? The hotel's pet-loving employees will walk and look after your furry one until you're settled back in for the day.

With locations in Connecticut's Southport, Greenwich Harbor and West Hartford, as well as in Michigan's Traverse City, Delamar is about as dog-friendly as a luxury boutique hotel chain can get. Ambassador hotels are proudly pet-friendly and these lavish lodgings in downtown Wichita are no exception. You can bring along one dog with a weight of up to 35 pounds (15.8kg) per room.

If you and your pet are after a cultural fix, head to 21c Museum Hotel in Louisville. This boutique spot doubles as an art gallery, boasting 9,000 square feet (836sq m) of exhibition space. These cosy suites are located in quaint Grand Marais, at the edge of Lake Superior and close to the Superior Hiking Trail. Fairview Inn is the image of a dreamy Southern hotel, with its blossoming trees, whitewashed columns and grand entryway. And fluffy family members can soak up the Southern charm too. Sheraton hotels are notoriously pet-friendly and this one is an easy walk from sprawling Penn Valley Park, with its own dedicated off-leash dog area. It might seem unlikely that this super-luxe Japanese-style spa resort should admit pets – but four-legged friends are welcomed with open arms. Dog beds and bowls are provided, many suites have dog-proof courtyards, and you can even allow your pet a soak in some of the private baths. You and your pooch are sure to leave feeling rejuvenated.

Pets are treated on par with their human companions at this 5-star hotel in downtown Manhattan. The in-room pet dining menu is suitably extravagant and the pet package includes a pillowy bed and a personalised water bowl. Dedicated staff will walk your pooch if your schedule fills up and they're clued-up on the pet-friendly spots in the city. Dog walking, sitting and grooming services are also available, alongside all the usual pet accessories. You'll be right by Freeway Park too, which is lovely for a stroll.

A sprawling resort tucked into the West Virginia countryside, Stonewall welcomes both dogs and cats in its cottages and lodge rooms.
