Step back in time and enjoy the luxuries of Ancient Rome at Caesars Palace Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Lavish marble interiors, statues and fountains are all reminiscent of the great empire, while unique spa experiences, like a Roman bath hydrotherapy circuit, offer a glimpse into what could've been the lives of the upper-class Romans. 

Cristiano Ronaldo is often considered among the world's best footballers but who knew he's also given the hotel industry a go? Pestana CR7 is a hotel entirely dedicated to Ronaldo in his hometown of Funchal on the Portuguese island of Madeira. As you might have guessed, this hotel is all about the football star so expect to see lots of his shirts, boots and pictures. Don't say we didn't warn you...

You're a wizard, Harry! Or at least you can pretend to be one at The Georgian House Hotel in London. Book a stay in an enchanted chamber or a family-friendly wizard chamber and be transported to one of the dormitories in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. For the full magical experience, the hotel hosts wizard-themed afternoon teas and potion-making classes on weekends.

Giraffe Manor, located just outside of Nairobi in Kenya, is a chance to share a meal with a herd of Rothschild's giraffes – one of the most endangered giraffe species. The stately home itself is a perfect example of laid-back luxury with clever little giraffe-themed accessories throughout. When you're not busy making friends with the stunning animals, the hotel does a lot to educate its visitors about animal conservation and offers guided sanctuary walks. 

The world's only Beatles-inspired hotel, Hard Days Night Hotel is all about the Fab Four. Located in their hometown of Liverpool, the hotel itself is named after one of the most popular Beatles songs and is housed in a stunning Grade II-listed building dating back to 1884. All rooms are individually designed and feature plenty of Beatles memorabilia as well as specially commissioned artwork.

Keen to spend a night behind bars? All is made possible at Hostel Celica in the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana. Here, 20 former prison cells have been converted into hotel rooms for a unique, if not a comfortable, night's sleep. All cells have very basic sleeping arrangements and still feature the old cell bars in front of the doors.

Another excellent choice for football fans (maybe not for Manchester City supporters, though), Hotel Football is located directly opposite one of the most storied football grounds in Europe – Old Trafford, home of Manchester United. The hotel is, obviously, football-themed and all the rooms feature memorabilia, quotes and pictures of some of the most famous Man United stars, while some rooms overlook the stadium itself. 

A seemingly standard hotel, some guests staying at the Hotel Gracery Shinjuku in Tokyo might be very surprised to open up the curtains in the morning only to see one of Godzilla's eyes staring back at them. A few rooms within this 4-star hotel are dedicated to Japan's most famous monster, so guests can expect to see a full-size Godzilla's foot smashing through the wall, hidden art revealed by a black light and plenty of Godzilla posters.

For the ultimate plane experience, book the cockpit suite and enjoy a restful night's sleep among the dials, levers and control wheels. Travelling alone or looking to shut the world out? There are four single cabins inside the former jet turbines too. 

One small step for a man, one giant leap for you to get to your bed in this spacious moon-themed executive suite at the Kameha Grand Zürich. The floors and ceilings are made to look like the surface of the moon, while the furniture and decor resembles that of a spaceship. It's all finished with paintings of astronauts and lamps that resemble the engines on a spaceship. In fact, it looks like you're stepping into a set for Gravity or Interstellar.

Everything is awesome at Hotel LEGOLAND – a family-friendly hotel all about LEGO. Part of the LEGOLAND Billund Resort theme park, all the rooms feature LEGO-themed decor, furniture and even play tables with LEGO bricks. Take your pick between a treasure room, a pirate room, an adventure room and more. Just watch out for those rogue LEGO bricks on the floor in the middle of the night... 

Complete with its very own sphinx, obelisk and statues of pharaohs, Luxor in Las Vegas is like stepping right into Ancient Egypt. You'll find the rooms all around the perimeter of an imposing 30-storey pyramid while the hotel's casino is housed in a giant temple within the pyramid. It's perfect for any budding Egyptologist.

A chic 1950s-themed hotel that pays homage to film star Marilyn Monroe, the Platine Hotel in Paris blends modern amenities with retro decor throughout. The Prestige double room is filled with pictures of Marilyn, as well as polka dot patterns and an eye-catching black, white and red colour scheme. 

Follow the yellow brick road straight to your bed at The Roxbury and find out whether sleep is any better in the Wizard of Oz's Emerald City. All the rooms at this eccentric hotel are themed – they include the inside of the Genie's lamp from Aladdin and a Breakfast at Tiffany's suite with sparkling chandeliers and the iconic Tiffany Blue-coloured decor throughout. 

If you've never had the chance to visit the famed Italian merchant city, don't worry because Las Vegas has produced a copy of the city's top attractions at The Venetian. You'll find everything from the Doge's Palace and the iconic gondolas floating through the canals, to a version of the Rialto Bridge and even St Mark's Campanile. Inside, opulent corridors are decorated with marble columns and Renaissance-inspired ceiling frescoes. No need to make that trip to Venice after all, then.

Named after the revolutionary eight-cylinder engine, the hotel's rooms are individually designed with plenty of car industry-related memorabilia and even car-shaped beds. Located in Abu Dhabi, the world's first Warner Bros. hotel welcomes its guests with film and TV props, themed artworks and other memorabilia, but that's not all, folks! You may even be greeted at the Sidekicks restaurant by much-loved characters like Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck.
