Lonely Planet has launched its own beer
From books to beers: global publisher launches an IPA
Global guidebook publisher Lonely Planet has entered the craft brewing scene this week with its own brand new brew.
The beer, aptly named Travel Notes, is a "truly international IPA", brewed using ingredients from five different continents. A collaboration between Northern Monk Brew Co. in Leeds and Fieldwork Brewing Company in the USA, the fruity beer is brewed with açaí berries from South America, mango from Africa, British and German malts, and hops from North America and Australia.
The publisher isn't about to start mass producing beers alongside its books, though: the new IPA is a special edition created to celebrate the release of their new Global Beer Tour. Touted as "a guide to beer tasting at the world's best breweries", the book offers recommendations for tasting rooms in breweries in 30 different countries around the world, from the UK to North Korea via Ethiopia.
There's a section on weird beers, including a lobster-chocolate brew, and – for the morning after – a rundown of the best hangover cures around the world (pickle juice in Poland, anyone?).
Travel Notes International IPA will be available to buy in 20 countries worldwide, including speciality beer stores that stock Northern Monk Brew Co. beers across the UK and Europe, and directly from the brewers at their brewery tap room in Leeds.
