Gatwick Airport hotel review: Yotel
Everything you need to know about YotelAir’s Gatwick airport hotel.
Those early morning flights can be a challenge, especially when you don’t live near the airport. Staying in an airport hotel is the ideal way to begin your holiday, but is it worth the money and which one should you try? Here, we put Gatwick’s YotelAir to the test.
Where is YotelAir?
Underground, landside in London Gatwick’s South Terminal. Head towards arrivals and you’ll spot the lifts on your right. If you’re flying from the North Terminal, it’s just a five-minute shuttle ride away.
What’s it like inside?
The whole experience at YotelAir is like living out a sci-fi nerd’s fantasy. Reception is called Mission Control and the long white corridors lined with ‘cabins’, illuminated by purple lighting, give it serious spaceship vibes.
The cabin itself is even reminiscent of quarters on the Starship Enterprise. There’s a single bed (there are premium double and twin cabins if you’ve got company too) tucked into a cubby hole with a TV at its foot, and the bathroom is separated by a sliding glass door. Plenty of mirrors ensure it feels light and spacious despite the fact it’s only 75 square feet in size.
What amenities are on offer?
There are shampoo/shower gel dispensers in the bathrooms and towels included. You’ll also get free wi-fi, tea, coffee and hot chocolate from Mission Control, which is open 24 hours.
Are there any drawbacks?
The nature of this hotel is that there are lots of people coming and going at all hours in rather close quarters. It can be noisy in the early hours of the morning, when many guests are getting up to check out, so if you want a good night's sleep bring earplugs.
How much does it cost?
The unusual thing about YotelAir is that you pay for the time you use and you can book by the hour. The minimum stay, four hours, will cost you £39 and the cost varies for anything over that depending on your check-in/check-out time. It’ll usually never cost you more than £80pp, though, so it can easily offset the cost of that 3am cab to the airport, or the price of parking for the duration of your trip.
