The entirety of Sweden is now available to 'rent' on Airbnb

Including a forest where you can sleep under the stars and a cliff with a view

Airbnb is known for its publicity stunts, which have seen it offer outlandish accommodation ranging from a cable car dangling 9,000 feet in the French Alps to a Mardi Gras float in Sydney. And its latest listing doesn't disappoint: this time it's an entire country.

The whole of Sweden is now listed on the holiday rental site as available "365 days a year". The move is an attempt by Visit Sweden to promote allemansrätten – the freedom to roam – a part of Swedish law that gives everyone the right to access, walk, cycle or camp on any public land.

Various parts of the country’s landscape are highlighted on the site, each with a short description of the space and amenities. They include a "Rustic Forest Retreat" in Värmland, described as a "vintage styled paradise" where you can "go to bed with the midnight sky above your head", and a "Cliff with Panoramic Ocean View" in Ångermanland, where guests can "explore the combination of barren rocky areas and majestic mountain views".

The house rules are: "The things you leave behind are your footsteps, and the things you take with you are memories."

“[Allemansrätten] enables the Swedish people to experience nature and enjoy the beautiful Swedish wildlife,” said Jenny Kaiser of Visit Sweden. “Now, together with Airbnb, we welcome everyone to come to Sweden and, through freedom to roam, share our wonderful nature.”
